OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP 
ANNOUNCEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION FOR 2009 


Purpose: The Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (OSLC) Scholarship is an award from the OSLC 
Educational Trust Fund, which was established to facilitate and advance the fulfillment of the 
charitable purpose for which Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church exists, in this case by providing financial 
assistance to qualified persons who would use their education to serve Jesus Christ. The applicant 
need not intend to pursue a church profession or religion-related major in school. 

Nature and amount of the scholarship award: One or more awards of up to $1000 per person for 
the 2009-2010 academic year will be made to one or more qualified applicants for use in enrolling as a 
full-time student in an accredited college or university, which may or may not be in the state of Utah. 
The money should be applied directly to the costs of higher education, such as tuition, fees, books, lab 
materials, room and board. Scholarship recipient(s) will be selected by the OSLC Scholarship 
Committee and will be recommended to the OSLC Council, which will make the award(s) to the 
successful applicant(s). 

Qualifications: The successful applicant must be a Lutheran (in any Lutheran congregation) and a 
resident of the state of Utah. He/she must demonstrate good character and respect for church and 
society. The applicant must be a high school graduate (or anticipate being a high school graduate at 
the time the award is made) with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00. He/she should be 
able to demonstrate both the academic potential for higher education and a real financial need to 
achieve his/her educational goals. He/she should be able to explain how his/her higher education will 
support his/her service to the ministry of Jesus Christ. 

Application: The complete application for the OSLC Scholarship consists of the following three 
items: 

A. Application Form (see attached page, or download the application form from the OSLC web 
page: www.oslcslc.org). Please provide all the information requested on the form. In order to include 
all pertinent details, the form may be re-typed and supplemented if desired. 
B. Personal Statement. Please submit an original statement (not to exceed two typed pages) 
describing your specific educational goals and the Christian application of your education. In this 
personal statement, please respond to the following two questions: 
(1) How do I hope to use my education to further the ministry of Jesus Christ? 
(2) Why do I need financial help to accomplish my educational goals? 
Applicants are advised to be as specific as possible in answering these questions. Understanding that 
higher education is a financial burden for everyone, please explain your own special financial needs. 
C. Academic Record. Please attach a photocopy of the official academic transcript(s) of all high 
schools and colleges you have attended. (The transcripts need not be the original notarized copies.) 
Timetable: All application materials must be submitted to the OSLC Scholarship Committee at the 
office of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (2500 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84124-1806;

2009. Finalist candidates may be invited for a personal interview with the OSLC Scholarship 
Committee at the Committee’s discretion. Deliberations of the Committee regarding scholarship 
applicants will be kept confidential, and decisions of the OSLC Council regarding the scholarship 
recipient(s) will be final. Announcement of the scholarship recipient(s) will be made in July, 2009.
